Associate Program Manager — TUFF

The Global Research Institute at William & Mary is currently seekingAssociate Program Managers (APM) to support the Tracking Underreported Financial Flows (TUFF) team within AidData.

The Associate Program Manager (APM) is a research staff position at AidData. APM positions are designed for individuals who would like to deepen and broaden their analytical, methodological, and management skills, receive on-the-job training and mentoring from a group of professional staff and researchers, and prepare for future professions in academia, public service, and/or the private sector.

The APM position will divide his or her time between student management, data quality assurance, and other specialized research, analysis, and policy outreach activities. The individual in this position will have the unique opportunity to contribute to novel data collection on Chinese official finance in high-income countries as well as loan repayment flows. This individual will also have the chance to contribute to policy research focusing on Chinese official finance and related topics.

This position is based at AidData at William & Mary's Global Research Institute in Williamsburg, Virginia. Candidates are expected to relocate to Williamsburg at the start of employment. This position is remote-work eligible (works remotely at least 1 day per week but not full-time). Remote work eligibility is not guaranteed and is subject to approval.

This is a full-time position, and salary is commensurate with experience up to $43,000. This is a restricted position subject to availability of funding.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Political Science, International Relations, Economics or a related degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of research methods in either qualitative and/or quantitative research.
  • Demonstrated skill in project management to include prioritizing assignments, interpretation and application of policies and procedures, problem solving, tracking progress, documentation of findings, report writing, and presentation of outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform qualitative and quantitative research and analysis, reach logical conclusions, and balance “big picture thinking” with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse population of constituencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize personal computers and Microsoft Office Suite to include: desktop publishing, word processing, spreadsheet and database applications, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, diverse, and complex assignments with minimal supervision and to work in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in one of AidData’s coding methodologies.
  • Familiarity with current issues in open data, open government, and international development.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Professional or academic experience in developing countries.
  • Experience working with researchers and the global development community.
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience with R.
