This dataset provides a consolidation of information gathered from multiple sources to quantify the money, relationships, and outcomes of two decades of Beijing’s financing for development in the Philippines. It tracks $9.1 billion of China's state-directed financing for more than 200 development projects from 2000-2022. These data have been showcased in the associated report, Beijing’s Big Bet on the Philippines: Decoding two decades of China’s financing for development.

The data package contains 3 databases used to produce figures in the report:

  1. PRC Finance in the Philippines (Financial_Inputs.xlsx)
  2. Relationships between PRC and Filipino actors (Relationships.xlsx)
  3. Outcomes of PRC Finance in the Philippines (Outcome_Measures.xlsx)

All values contained in these databases are synthesized from raw numbers, transformed to be in 2021 USD constant and mapped to our sectors of interest. Due to data licensing agreements, some databases that have been used in the report are not shared here. These data can be directly downloaded or solicited from their respective sources. For further information on data sources and any methodological details, see the Technical Annex of the report.
